Schooooooool’s OUT THIS WINTER!
Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber‘s hit musical will play their final performance on January 20, 2019, producers announced at the Winter Garden Theater today.
When the musical closes on Jan. 20, it will have played 31 previews and 1,307 regular performances.
The show recouped its $15 Million initial investment in May of 2017 after beginning performances just 18 months prior.
Based on the 2003 film starring Jack Black, “School or Rock” traces the antics of Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star who poses as a substitute teacher at an elite prep school. In short order, Dewey turns strait-laced students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping band.”
All Things Broadway Founder, and off-Broadway Producer, Eliyahu Kheel is known in Broadway circles as an expert on Broadway Shows, and had this to say about the show and its closing, “School of Rock is a truly special show. It brings out the youthful joy in adults and inspires the best in the youth. It is truly heartbreaking that this beautiful show is closing on Broadway. But just as I dream to one day be a part of this show, I know it will live on among the theatre community for a long time through those who continue to climb to the top of mount rock.”
The Tony-nominated show, lyrics by Glenn Slater and book by Julian Fellowes, is also playing a national tour as well as on London’s West End. An Australian sit-down production will kick off October 31, 2018 before touring Asia through 2019.
The show is currently available for student and educational licensing through The Musical Company.
